Children's Grief Support Services | Bereavement & Volunteer Coordinator | 1 Full-Time (40 hours/week) -OR- 2 Part-Time (20-25 hours/week) | West Michigan

 

Ele’s Place-West Michigan (Grand Rapids) is seeking one full-time (40 hours/week) -or- two part-time (20-25 hours/week) Bereavement Coordinator(s). This position serves as part of our program staff and provides guidance and support to families, volunteers, and community members around issues of death, grief, and loss.  This position will oversee one or two assigned program sessions in our evening onsite grief support program.  **Must be available Monday and Thursday evenings.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Acts as Bereavement Coordinator for the onsite, peer support group program, overseeing assigned evening sessions, serving as either Family or Volunteer Bereavement Coordinator.
  • Provides information/guidance/support/feedback to program volunteers as it relates to their work with families. Briefs them about family updates, procedures, and other organization announcements. Helps ensures all program set-up/clean-up work is completed.
  • Provides guidance for Ele’s Place families about programming and enrollment. Identifies and coordinates additional referrals to outside resources, as indicated.
  • Conducts initial family calls and family intakes as assigned; provides follow-up support and referrals, as needed. Supports families throughout the enrollment process.
  • Provides guidance and support to families and other community members around issues of death, grief, and loss. Assists callers and visitors with inquiries seeking information, guidance, and/or referrals.
  • Maintains family and volunteer records and ensures that all information is correct and up to date.
  • Makes presentations to community groups, teachers, physicians, etc. about Ele’s Place and children’s grief issues as assigned.
  • Participates in Program Team meetings, and works with Program group to ensure achievement of applicable strategic plan goals. 
  • Works with our team to assure continuity and quality of programming.
  • Helps to ensure that all program staff and volunteers follow child safety policies, emergency procedures, and building safety policies.
  • Manages or co-manages prospective volunteer applications. Maintains spreadsheet of potential volunteers. Assists callers and visitors with inquiries seeking information, guidance and/or referral about volunteer opportunities.
  • Conducts volunteer background checks per agency policy.  
  • Recruits and interfaces with prospective and new facilitators. Coordinates the pre- and post-training interview process and conducts or assigns interviews. 
  • Ensures all aspects of facilitator training programs for prospective and current facilitators are effectively planned and coordinated as well as leads portions of the training.
  • Coordinates assignment of facilitators and program helpers.  Recruits and maintains current list of substitute facilitators. 
  • Coordinates other projects, as assigned.

Position Requirements (Skills & Abilities):

  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate support groups with children and adults.  
  • Ability to use basic technology – computer programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Dedicated to the philosophy and purpose of group work and grief support services.
  • Must possess sound judgment; prioritization and follow-through skills; attention to details; dependability, and ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Maintenance of expertise in knowledge of licensure standards.
  • Knowledge of bereavement and its impact on childhood development and families.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including assigned evenings.
  • Professional integrity, responsible, and accountable. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Knowledge and understanding of play as children’s language of communication and expression.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

Education Requirements: Minimum of LLMSW, LLP, LLMFC, or LLPC state licensure (or equivalent state licensure with a master’s degree in a mental health-related field) is required. Experience working with grief and loss is strongly preferred. Supervision is available to LLMSW candidates working towards full licensure.

Expectations: This position requires working Monday afternoons and one or two assigned evenings (Mondays and/or Thursdays) at our onsite bereavement program. Must be available Monday and Thursday evenings. The remaining hours can be flexible, depending on the needs of the program.

Pay: $25.00 - $31.00 per hour
